FAQ
Got a question about how to use it or what it can do?
Our FAQs walk you through it step by step, so it’s super easy.
What happens when a call is blocked?
On iPhone: Apple requires the call to appear as a notification, but without ringing. The call is visible in the call history but does not ring.
On Android: the call is fully blocked and no notification is shown.
What are the criteria for blocking or identifying a number?
Blocall uses two types of lists:
Your personal list: you can add numbers yourself to block or identify. This list remains only on your phone.
The Blocall database: if you enable automatic blocking and identification, the app uses data downloaded locally to your phone, sourced from:
• community reports,
• official sources,
• regular updates provided by Blocall.
Who develops the application and where are its services hosted?
Blocall is a made-in-France application, developed and maintained by a French company.
All data is hosted in France, in facilities compliant with European regulations (GDPR).
No data is transferred outside the European Union.
Are my contacts blocked?
On iPhone: your contacts are automatically excluded, with no risk of false positives.
On Android: to exclude your contacts, you must allow contact access for the app in your phone settings.
Does the app need internet to block calls?
No. All blocked and identified numbers are stored locally on your phone. Blocking works even without a network connection.
What data is collected?
Blocall only collects:
your user consent,
the number reports you choose to send to improve the community database.
Is my personal data protected?
Yes. All data is stored in a local, encrypted database within the app and is compliant with GDPR requirements.
How often is the database updated?
Updates occur at least once a day, automatically.
⚠️ On iPhone, updates can only run if the app remains active in the background (and is not force-closed).
Is Blocall free?
Yes, for non-professional use.
For professional use, see the Plans tab in the app to explore suitable offers.
Business solution: Deployment and Pro licenses
Blocall Pro is intended for professional use and can be deployed in two ways:
• Manual deployment: you purchase one or more professional licenses and activate each device by entering the license code in the app (Settings → Company code).
• Automated deployment (MDM): you deploy Blocall across your company’s devices using a mobile device management (MDM) solution. Activation is then performed automatically using the company license code.

A spam call got through — what should I do?
You can report the number from the app. Each report helps strengthen the database and improves protection for the entire community.
How many numbers can be blocked?
• On iPhone: we limit to 50 million numbers (beyond that, iOS does not guarantee stability).
• On Android: there is no practical limit.
Is number lookup anonymous?
Yes. Lookup is designed to be anonymous: Blocall does not keep an individual history of your searches.
To ensure service security and prevent abuse, minimal technical logs may be retained (e.g., timestamps and security indicators), with no profiling or advertising.
Why is a number’s location sometimes inaccurate?
Mobile numbers are assigned by carriers and do not correspond to a fixed geographic location. VoIP numbers (calls over the internet) are not tied to a physical line.
Blocall therefore shows possible locations or general information depending on the case.
Why are some options available only on Android?
iOS and Android do not rely on the same systems and do not offer the same technical capabilities.
For example:
• On iOS, Blocall can display the caller’s name directly on the call screen when it is known.
• On Android, this feature is not available in the same way.
On the other hand, Android allows advanced options that are not permitted on iOS, including:
• sending a notification when a call is blocked,
• blocking foreign phone numbers,
• blocking all numbers that are not in the phone’s contact list.
These differences are imposed by the operating systems themselves. Blocall takes full advantage of the capabilities allowed on each platform.
In which situations is Blocall particularly useful?
Telemarketing, spam, and scam calls affect everyone today.
Many people are disturbed, and sometimes harassed, by unwanted calls.
Blocall is particularly useful to:
• protect against abusive telemarketing,
• reduce fraudulent and scam calls,
• identify unknown callers.
Since the application is free for personal use, it is recommended to install it on all devices, especially for vulnerable people such as children, elderly individuals, or anyone who wants better protection.
What makes Blocall different from other call blockers?
Blocall follows a “privacy first” approach.
Unlike many similar applications:
• Blocall complies with GDPR,
• no personal data is resold,
• there is no advertising or data monetization,
• data is stored locally and securely.
Protecting user privacy is a core principle of Blocall.
Does Blocall have an impact on battery life or performance?
Blocall is designed to be very lightweight.
Its impact on battery usage is less than 1%.
Processing is limited to necessary moments only (incoming calls or data updates) in order to preserve performance and battery life.
What happens if I uninstall Blocall?
Yes. Blocall data are automatically backed up by your phone’s operating system.
• On iPhone: the backup is included in your device’s iCloud backup if it is enabled.
• On Android: the backup is handled by the phone’s Google backup system.
Restoration is fully automatic: if you reinstall the app using the same user account, your data are automatically restored by the phone’s system
Are my data backed up?"
Uninstalling Blocall simply removes the application and its local data.
No permanent changes are made to the phone, and no blocking rules are kept after uninstallation.
Can I share or transfer my number list?
Yes. You can export or import your personal number list.
To do so:
• Open the “Numbers” tab
• Tap the three dots in the top right corner
• Select “Import / Export”
Export is available in CSV format. Import must use the same format.
What statistical data does Blocall send?
Blocall may send anonymous statistics only if the option is enabled by the user.
These statistics are used exclusively to improve the app and may include:
• database update frequency,
• activation status of certain features,
• counters of blocked and identified calls,
• technical performance indicators.
No phone numbers, no contacts, and no personal data are transmitted. Only anonymous counters and aggregated metrics are sent.
How can I request deletion of a report or exercise my rights?
You can contact support at support@blocall.com.
To technically identify data associated with your reports, the UUID (support identifier) may be required.
